Why is it called “Katie Beckett” Medicaid?
Katie Beckett was a real person who became disabled as a baby due to an illness. Her family advocated that the best treatments and services for her complex health care needs were available at home and in a community setting, not in an institution or hospital. The federal government created a special group of Medicaid coverage for kids just like Katie Beckett.
